Digital Environments Meet Physical Space – Transforming Office Interiors with Transparent OLED

Jun 27, 2022
Open Innovation Forum 2022 – Las Vegas

What if our office felt as boundless as our imagination? The third year of the Open Innovation Forum(OIF) gave visitors a captivating look into the future of workplace and business design.

At the Westin in Las Vegas, attendees witnessed a stunning array of products centered around the Transparent OLED technology. This versatile innovation by LG Display enables a future where our displays are seamlessly interwoven into the very architecture of our physical space by removing the visual obstruction associated with typical displays.

Various offerings included Transparent OLEDs optimized for high-end offices, premium hospitality experiences, and additional sectors as well – including retail, transportation, and more. By imaginatively applying this technology across multiple industries, visitors saw powerful new ways to captivate the attention of their consumers in a way that evokes a powerful emotional response.

However, to integrate this astounding new capability into our existing spaces, world-class design is needed to augment the possibilities of futuristic technology. With this in mind, LG Display partnered with some of the best designers in the world.

An Endlessly Open Future

We don’t often think of office spaces as inspiring – but Transparent OLED has found a way to change all of that. By creating partitions which can seamlessly morph from an invisible panel into a display of whatever information is necessary, Transparent OLED gives businesses a remarkable canvas with endless potential.

To make the most of this incredible technology, LG Display collaborated with the brilliant minds of Gensler, Maars Living Walls, and EXA.

“Working with this medium gave us the flexibility and adaptability of space that has never been accomplished before. Thinking about Transparent OLED as an architectural material allowed us to integrate technology into space in a way that was much more natural and seamless.“ – Michael Schneider, Gensler

Gensler demonstrated the power of this technology by creating an unforgettable hospitality moment at the exhibit entrance. Utilizing augmented reality, viewers witnessed vivid petals animate outward from a physical vase on a counter, and float into a calendar display. It becomes quickly apparent that Transparent OLED is not just another display – but that it is a window into an entire new world of possibilities.

“I see Transparent OLED having endless possibilities. Seeing it applied to many different applications while we’re here [at OIF] really makes me believe we can integrate it within all our wall systems.” – Richard Camacho, Maars Living Walls

Further into the exhibit, the flex space showcased an even greater range of possibilities for this new category of display. Utilizing Transparent OLED Technology, users can access information or peer through it, which allows the same space to become a conference room or a yoga retreat with the simple push of a button. This design allows occupants to seamlessly transition from a holographic conference call into an emotionally recharging meditation. Never before have rejuvenation and productivity been so closely aligned.

“Our environment can shift rapidly with the Transparent OLED. Having digital display technology embedded in your environment enables the end user to rapidly change that environment, to meet the needs of the people who are using that space. They can go from making it a place for a hybrid meeting to some place for meditation, relaxation, health, wellness, to a social event where you’re supporting community and culture within your environment.” – Michael Schneider, Gensler

E-Crystal (Double Glazed Partition) by EXA : A Wall & A Window

If you walked by the E_Crystal (Double-Glazed Partition) when it was powered down – you wouldn’t give it a second thought. That makes it all the more striking to see that it houses Transparent OLED inside which responds to touch. The visionary team at EXA designed a panel which creates a futuristic meeting room that’s well-suited to a wide range of uses.

It can instantly morph from a fully transparent divider into a holographic conference call or immersive presentation with touch screen functionality – a design which marries practicality to aesthetic elegance and allows user-customizable differentiation between adjacent spaces.

For conference rooms that have a wide range of uses, this panel is sure to become a must have. With no visible frame, it’s truly stunning to see this partition come to life and transform into a fully-featured touchscreen.

Depending on the desired ambience of the office, the clever design of the EXA Double Glazed partition can be an unobtrusive partition or a gateway into any corner of the digital universe. With the ever-changing set of needs faced by various teams, the revolutionary partition is sure to be a piece of technology that is as inspiring as it is effective.

“Transparent OLED has the advantage of being able to form a smart and more open meeting space. ··· We think that the most important thing was that we’ve upgraded our existing crystal products to the next level. We collaborated with the video equipment itself, which gave us the advantage of developing our product to the next level and providing more interesting content to consumers.” – Hwan Sung An, EXA ENC
