SID 2022 : Ever-evolving New OLED Technology Opens a New Future

May 12, 2022
There is the white-tone booth SID 2022, and various kinds of OLED TVs are displayed while showing various screens.

LG Display(Hoyoung Jeong, CEO) showcased more advanced OLED technologies at the SID(Society for Information Display) 2022 exhibition in San Jose(San José), U.S.A for three days from May 10th.

SID is an event where global display-related companies and academia gather to present research papers and introduce new technologies and products, and LG Display offered an opportunity to directly experience OLED technology evolution and discriminatory value firsthand under the theme of ‘The New Future of OLED’.

In SID 2022, keynote speaker Soo-Young Yoon(Executive Vice President and CTO, LG Display Co., Ltd.) introduced OLED technological advances, unique characteristics, and technological advantages under the theme of ‘The New Normal and Displays’. What we need in the New Normal era as a result of the recent changes in the environment is a human-centered Natural Reality paradigm shift, not traditional Spec-centric, indicating that OLED is the best solution for this.

The Next OLED Technology ① OLED Evolution

Ultra large 97-inch OLED.EX
The largest 97-inch TV panel in existence is equipped with ‘EX technology’ with deuterium technology and personalized algorithms in the organic light emitting diode. OLED.EX is a next-generation TV panel that revolutionizes image quality, increasing screen brightness by 30 percent, creating a more sophisticated natural color and perfect black color in any environment. The 97″ OLED TV panel offers a different visual experience in overwhelming size.
The Next OLED Technology ② New Business

42-inch Bendable OLED Gaming Display
By maximizing the advantages of paper-thin OLED, gamers can use it flat when watching TV and bend it freely up to 1,000R(about 1,000mm radius), giving gamers an overwhelming sense of immersion.

In addition to large OLED technology, a new form of foldable technology was introduced. The 8-inch ‘360-degree foldable OLED’, has a two-way folding technology that can be folded back and forth for user convenience. Furthermore, it has a module structure that guarantees the durability of folding it more than 200,000 times, and a special folding structure that minimizes wrinkles increase.

For the first time, LG Display introduced independent developed large OLED, ‘OLED in-Touch’ and ‘Transparent OLED in-Touch’. The world’s first large 55-inch OLED TV panel and transparent OLED TV panel internalize touch capabilities, especially Transparent OLED in-Touch, which provide new customer value with superior touch performance while maintaining transparency.

0.42-inch AR Glass ‘OLEDoS(OLED On Silicon)’ uses OLED on the top of the silicon wafers that make semiconductors to realize the ultra-high resolution of 3,500 PPI(Pixel Per Inch), enabling a more realistic augmented reality.

Additionally, ’Transparent Shelf’ was introduced at SID2022, which can be used in various modes such as interior home screen concept, art gallery, etc., and ’34-inch P-OLED’ for vehicles which is designed to enhance driver convenience on one screen, including instrument panel, navigation, and audio systems.

Meanwhile, during the exhibition period, SID selects the most innovative exhibition products and exhibition halls and awards the People’s Choice Awards, and LG Display was selected as the ‘Best Large Booth’ of the year. As shown at SID 2022, LG Display will continue to provide customers with differentiated values that only OLED can realize through continuous technological innovation and present a better life.
