Winners of the 2nd OLEDs Go! Competition Announced

LG Display has been hosting a global design competition, the only one in the display sector, to seek innovative designs and customer experience focused on the light, bendable, transparent, and rollable nature of OLED.

Held since 2020, this competition has been paving the way for the potential and growth of OLED displays by discovering innovative new ideas. This year’s competition saw over 300 participants from 45 countries who contributed their novel and unique ideas under the theme of ‘creative OLED designs to enrich people’s changing lifestyles.’

Come explore the final winners that have offered new possibilities to utilize OLED, chosen by comprehensively evaluating the entries’ uniqueness, aesthetics, usability, the potential for lifestyle enrichment, and technological feasibility.

The 2nd OLEDs Go! 1st place winner Caelum

The 1st place winner of the 2nd OLEDs Go! competition was awarded to Caelum by a Turkish designer, Cagatay Afsar. Caelum is a design that incorporates a Transparent OLED display with a desk partition, freeing up the space previously reserved for a monitor and turning transparent when not in use to blend seamlessly into its surrounding. Afsar said, “I wanted to design a desk most optimized for working from home,” adding that, “Transparent OLED technology made it possible to design a desk with both functionality and openness.”

Rollable OLED is coupled to a foldable shelf-type desk providing an efficient space as the display can be folded or unfolded.

The 2nd place went to Tiny, an all-in-one solution that combines a 32-inch rollable OLED, a foldable shelf-type desk, and speakers. As a piece by Turkish designer Damla Aras, users can roll up or roll down the display as desired, enhancing the efficiency of the space. Used as a wall shelf or speaker normally, this piece can become a workstation by opening the foldable desk. Its fabric, wood, and leather finish are reminiscent of authentic furniture, enhancing the elegance of the living room space.

The 3rd place went to Vivid, a moveable touchscreen Transparent OLED. Designed by WA+CH based in Milan, Vivid is a highly practical design thanks to its movability via the combination of a 55-inch vertical Transparent OLED installed on a wheeled vertical frame. The touchscreen-enabled Transparent OLED can be used as a whiteboard or a mood board, and a camera is attachable for efficient video conference sessions. It can also be used as a room divider when not being used for other purposes.

Rollable OLEDs are combined with a pillar-shaped sound bars, and they can be utilized by folding, unfolding or rotating the display.

Just as canvas is hung on the easel, Transparent OLED is installed on the easel stand creating a luxurious interior effect in any spaces.

The 4th place went to Totem, a rollable OLED furled inside a soundbar and pivotable into either portrait or landscape mode. In 5th place Easel, which combines a transparent or regular OLED display with an easel-type stand, emanates a sophisticated interior effect in an everyday space.

Totem at 4th place befits a modern interior with its pastel hue and fabric finishing, able to be stored without taking up too much space as it is shaped as a vertical soundbar. Easel, like its namesake, can be easily folded, its movability and versatility making it easy to use anywhere in the home. The display can switch to transparent mode while the lower part can be utilized as a rack for magazines or other objects.

Phoenix Design, in partnership with LG Display, has participated as a judge in choosing this year’s finalists. Phoenix Design is a prominent German design studio, winner of the highest number of world-renowned design awards such as the iF Award, Red Dot Award, and more. They have stated that this year especially had many innovative and new ideas that utilized the light and flexible nature of OLED. The winning entries will be carefully reviewed for commercial potential and fostered as a new business in connection with product development.
